Arlene B. Baratz, MD
Arlene is the family and medical advisor to Accord Alliance. A physician and mother of two daughters with Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS), Arlene and daughter Katie, a medical student, appeared on September 21, 2007, on the Oprah show "Growing Up Intersexed" to promote a paradigm of honesty and family-focused, integrated care for families raising a child with a DSD. Arlene is a board member and medical advisor to the Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome Support Group (AISSG-USA), representing AISSG-USA for the Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network Coalition of Patient Advocacy Groups. Through long involvement in the AIS/DSD Parents' Group, she has extensive experience in parenting and family issues. She contributed to the Clinical Guidelines for the Management of Disorders of Sex Development in Childhood and its companion Handbook for Parents as models of patient-centered care for DSDs. On the board of Advocates for Informed Choice, Arlene contributes a physician viewpoint to projects on informed consent and medical privacy. A graduate of University of Pittsburgh medical school and practicing breast radiologist, Arlene takes pride in contributing to the success of the breast cancer advocacy movement since the 1980's.
